This comprehensive and easy-to-use guide can be considered the Ayurvedic counterpart to a conventional home medical handbook. The therapies include diet, herbs, exercise and yoga, oil massage, breathing techniques, meditation, and such adjuncts as sound, color, and aromatherapy. Part 3, fully one-half of the guide, is an encyclopedia of remedies organized in an AZ format by symptom or condition; see references provide adequate access to the more than 100 common ailments. Numerous sidebars throughout the text provide additional information or precautions. The guide closes with line drawings of yoga postures, a glossary, resources, and further reading. Penny Spokes

Cures, not mere Symptom management
By Iskren S. Swinburne
I'm still reading it, just wanted to give it five stars. Ayurveda is so special. All i'll say is my general impression as well as my impression of the doshas. In general, and coming from a naturopathic background, it is very perfect. You could summarize ayurveda as "removing accumulated toxins and straightening out diet", which ENTIRELY encompasses all the most down to earth successful knowledge about health!!!! How can you beat that?
The reason I wanted to talk about the doshas is that, Imagine a world where ALL you knew was what went "into" your body, how it "felt", and what "came out" of your body. That is the entirety of how Ayurveda developed, and that is a sane approach to biology, right? Any other approach would be reaching for the stars, probably needlessly. Soo.. where that approach appears to lack is specifically a precise knowledge of nutrient functions. There are just 3 doshas, and they certainly all refer to real forces in biology. Kapha refers to structure and lubrication, which sounds very vague, I know, but in ayurveda, what kapha usually refers to is nutritional deficiency, OR sufficiency, so you have to constantly translate that word in your mind, it's not some mysterious force, it's protein, fat, metals, vitamins... Pitta basically refers to digestion and metabolism, and how to not get too hot or too cool. And word to the wise, everyone's pittas are messed up. The final dosha is Vata, which basically refers to Anything That Moves to promote health. It's an umbrella term whethever ayurveda realizes it or not. It goes for Chi flow, anything that moves via the blood, and avoiding lifestyle/dietary habits that might cause pooling and stagnancy on Any level. So that's cool, right? All three doshas refer to real things, and it was a biological science that was developed without knowing how every subtle function in the body works, but nailed a lot of it.
Is this book worth every penny and will probably save your life/health. Yes, with enormous certainty. Modern western doctors suggest to us that health is an esoteric religion that only comes at high cost, which was a joke from it's birth, and of course, pain management became a priority over curing because of one motivating factor: dollar bills. So imagine a science of healing that developed without big monies involved and over (at least) thousands of years. Ayurveda and Chinese medicine are our some of the only options for cures, not mere symptom management. These medicines did not develop with the focus of symptom management. That has become a nasty evil in western medicine, and I say that without exaggerating. Vasant Lad is certainly famous in the west for communicating the science in easy intuitive terms, but thoroughly as well. I researched the best books on Ayurveda and this one came up enough to make the purchase. I believe it is essential to any household.

Easy to understand and with lots of simple home remedies
By ISMAEL BELTRAN
I am not an ayurvedic practioner, therefore, sometimes I find difficult to understand some ayurvedic concepts. I rated this book with 5 stars precisely because it explains ayurvedic principles fluently and in a simply manner. In addition, this is also a practical manual with lots of simple home remedies for a wide variety of diseases.
