Great Introduction to Textiles Book

A very intense book to get started in Textiles. Textiles is so involved and complex. This book delivers. The Swatchbook that can be purchased with it on the other hand lacks due to poor quality swatches. I am in the process of finding better swatch books than the one that is issued for purchase with this book.

Great book on textiles!

This book is for my class textile technology and design. There is probably more information in here than I will ever need to know this quarter but I will be holding on to it after this class because it is such a valuable reference. The information is easy to find and presented in a format that makes it easy to understand. There are great definitions and many illustrations throughout. The new edition has a lot of information on sustainable fibers and textiles which is the main thing that I am interested in.

Needs more photographs

This has some helpful information but not nearly enough pictures. It is nearly impossible to truly understand the author's descriptions of the eyes without photographs. A lymphatic rosary is a series of white spots near the outer rim of the iris but there is no photo of this, yet a white in the Iris is supposed to mean something else. Very confusing.

A little book with a large message

This book is distinctly small, not much bigger than the size of my hand and lighter than a medium-sized sandwich.

That may seem like a strange way to start a review. But I find the book's size a great plus. A book that is lighter than a sandwich is easy to take along in a pocket or purse, readily available whenever I have a few minutes free. In the grocery store line? Open it up and read one of the insets.

This is a great book for people who want to put positive psychology to work in their own lives, or those of family members, clients, or colleagues. It contains 22 short chapters starting with What is happiness? and ending with Where next? In between appear many of the prominent topics in positive psychology: savoring, resilience, gratitude, positive relationships, optimism, emotional intelligence, character strengths, mindfulness, mindsets, motivation, and so on. The chapters are short, on average 9 pages long. They are written in accessible language for the lay reader, summarizing points made by leading researchers and illustrating topics with brief but believable stories. Each chapter ends with a section labeled Things to Remember that brings the main points of the chapter quickly back to mind.

Numerous insets make it an easy book to dip into. They include:

- 50 activities labeled Try it now!

- 4 case studies, each a story of a particular individual applying one or more of the concepts in the book in a particular situation.

It is great for people like me who enjoy learning about spirituality ...

I am absolutely LOVING this book so far. It is great for people like me who enjoy learning about spirituality and wellness techniques, but are also hyper-logical and therefore have a tough time subscribing to all of it. She breaks everything down in a funny and "real" way, and doesn't try to dress it up as something that it isn't. If something is odd or a little out there, she calls it out. She recognizes that some of the techniques that work for other soul searchers seem strange to her, just like some techniques that she uses might sound strange to us, and that's okay. I also love that she encourages her readers to embrace the weirdness. It's nice to suspend my logic for a bit and just have fun with it! Definitely recommend this one to any and all modern soul searchers. It makes me smile every time I open it!

Wonderful Book - I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is wondering or searching regarding their destination or life pathway. Emma is very down to earth with her writing & has a great way of explaining things. I find myself laughing at things in the book, and saying "that is So Me that she is talking about". Emma explore so many different ways to connect or re-connect to yourself & your spiritual destiny through yoga, meditation, Rekki, crystal healing, just to mention a small few.

A+++++ For Book and for Seller

This, make no mistake, is a tome...a door stop..., but it is far more-it's a wonderfully detailed, well researched
book of the emporiums...the department stores...that used to define this country's retail scene.

It was...and still is...a pleasure to hold it (on my lap), and vicariously reinsert myself into the wonder of the
original 'one stop' destination for everything imaginable...before the advent of the strip mall.

Anyone with an interest in this subject would be well advised to purchase the book...before it becomes
prohibitively expensive...due to scarcity and being out of print.

Thanks to Jan Whitaker for taking on the subject, and for doing a remarkable job.
